25th Anniversary Celebration

Yes, there was cake!

Thank you to everyone who gathered on Saturday to celebrate the garden’s 25th anniversary! The weather was perfect, the food was delicious, and the socializing was most welcome.

Thank you to all the members who joined in and contributed salads and other treats to make this an occasion to remember. Thanks, also, to those who helped set up and clean up at the event. Special thanks to Carmen for her leadership throughout the planning process and the event; to Andrea for grilling and Jerri for cooking the corn; to Gill for the beautiful cake and gift bags of seeds; to Denise for monitoring the Covid hygiene table (among other things); to Ethel for the shopping; and last–but most definitely not least–to Bill, for his abiding commitment and ongoing direction to the community garden over the past 25 years! To read Bill’s words of welcome and background on the garden, click here.

Thanks, also, to our special guests: Mayor Brad West, who delivered kind words of praise for the community garden; Pippa Van Velzen, a founding director of the garden; and Pat O’Donohue, past-president of the garden in its early days.

Congratulations to those who won door prizes: Terena, Inga, and to Cai Fa Chen, who was twice lucky on Saturday in winning the 50/50 draw. Thanks to everyone who bought tickets, we raised $136 to donate to the Canadian Red Cross British Columbia Fires Appeal.

Selected photos from Saturday’s celebration can be found here.

Here’s to another 25 years of growing good food in our community garden!
